Laptop repairs

Cracked screens, broken hinges, worn keyboards, batteries and other replaceable parts. We assess the fault and get your approval before fitting replacements.

Desktop & gaming PC repairs

Computers that won’t start, crash, overheat or behave unpredictably. We investigate the cause, replace faulty parts and check the system as a whole.

Upgrades & slow computers

SSD and memory upgrades, performance checks and troubleshooting when a computer runs slower than its hardware should.

Software & malware

Windows and software faults, unwanted programs, malware checks and security software installation or renewal.

Files & data recovery

Software recovery of lost files, help with accessible drives and backups. For hardware failures, we are an authorised Ontrack drop-off partner.

New & custom PC builds

A new desktop or gaming computer put together for your needs, with practical advice on parts and upgrades.

Our workshop focuses on laptop and desktop repairs and replaceable components. We don’t undertake soldering or board-level component repairs.

Repair times and charges.

Workshop charges

Prices are in Australian dollars and include GST. Replacement parts are additional.

$145 per hour

30-minute minimum ($72.50 labour).

Initial diagnosis

The first 10 minutes of diagnosis are generally free.

If diagnosis takes longer and you choose not to proceed, a $49 diagnostic charge may apply unless otherwise specified.

If you proceed with the repair, diagnosis time is included in the normal workshop labour charge. There is no additional $49 diagnostic fee.

Average workshop turnaround
Jobs finished in the last 4 days 1.7 work days
Jobs finished in the last 30 days 2.1 work days

These averages allow for recorded pauses and non-working Sundays. Your repair may take longer, particularly when parts are needed.

About these averages

Each figure covers jobs finished in the preceding 4 or 30 days, measured from the recorded job start to finish. They describe recent experience, not today’s queue or a promised collection date.

Recorded pauses can include waiting for parts, awaiting your decision on a repair, or work put on hold at your request.

Optional priority service

Priority workshop service.

Need your computer attended to urgently? A one-off $59 priority fee keeps your job at the top of the workshop queue.

Priority determines the order of work. It cannot guarantee a shorter completion time: diagnosis, testing and parts availability still matter.

How your repair works.

A workshop booking arranges your drop-off; it does not reserve a repair time. Standard jobs are worked on in the order they arrive at the shop.

  1. 01

    Drop off

Tell us about the fault. We send your booking number, pricing and expectations by email and SMS.

  2. 02

    Diagnosis & approval

We investigate, explain our findings and discuss the proposed next steps with you.

  3. 03

    Repair & checks

We carry out the agreed work, check the computer and keep you updated as appropriate.

  4. 04

    Ready to collect

When the job is completed, you automatically receive both an email and an SMS letting you know it is ready.

Approval before extra work. We ask for explicit approval before using or installing replacement parts. If the work is likely to take more than an hour, or exceed what was initially indicated or quoted, we consult you before doing extra work or using extra parts.

Checks beyond the original fault.

Physical cleaning and checks such as malware scans, memory tests and storage health checks form part of diagnosis and repair. We investigate unusual slowness too, and contact you before attending to another issue we find.

A simple antivirus installation or subscription renewal does not normally include a full tune-up unless you request one.

A purpose-built workshop

Organised around your repair.

Your equipment stays linked to its job, with useful updates and a record we can refer to when you return.

12

Equipped workstations

Dedicated benches and plumbed compressed air provide space for diagnosis, cleaning, repairs and testing.

Labelled from the start

Printed labels keep your equipment and parts associated with the correct job.

Progress you can follow

We keep you informed about progress, including when ordered parts arrive or are delayed.

A useful repair history

The work done and parts used remain in your job history for future reference.

The systems behind the benches

Our custom software links customer screens, job boards, messages, calendars and repair records. Parts ordering is tracked too. A central network monitoring (NOC) board helps David keep an eye on the wider systems supporting the workshop.

Cleaning and cooling.

Dust and fluff can clog cooling systems, contributing to overheating, crashes and unexpected shutdowns. In extreme cases, restricted airflow can also be a fire risk.

Bring it in—we’ll take care of the dust.

We clean dust from fans, vents, cooling fins, radiators and inside power supplies where appropriate, then check the cooling system. Physical cleaning is part of our repair process, and you can also bring a computer in specifically for a clean and check-up.

Data recovery

Local help. Specialist support when it’s needed.

Ontrack Authorised Partner

We help with software-level recovery of lost or deleted files in our Greenway workshop. For a failed drive or other hardware damage, Crawfords is an authorised Ontrack partner and Canberra drop-off point. Ontrack carries out specialist recovery at its Brisbane cleanroom, following evaluation and your approval.

Encrypted drives require the BitLocker recovery key so we can unlock or decrypt the drive before attempting software recovery.

Directions & contact

Do I need an appointment?

You can bring your computer to our Greenway shop during opening hours, Monday–Saturday, 10am–3pm. If you arrange a workshop booking, it is a drop-off booking, not a reserved repair slot. Standard jobs are attended to in arrival order; optional priority service puts your job first in the queue.

What should I bring?

Bring your laptop and its charger, or your desktop tower. Bring accessories that relate to the fault, and tell us about any important files or intermittent symptoms. If the problem involves a screen, printer or other device, call first so we can advise what is needed.

Will you need my passwords?

We only request passwords for accounts or services you have asked us to investigate. We can help reset forgotten Windows account passwords where possible. Recovery of online accounts cannot be guaranteed if you no longer have the password, recovery methods or access to your two-factor authentication device.

If your drive is encrypted, bring the BitLocker recovery key where available. Please discuss access details directly with us.

Can you back up my computer first?

Yes, ask us before work begins. A full backup can add up to a day to turnaround and may require additional billable time, depending on the drive’s condition. We will discuss this with you. A failing drive may not allow a complete backup.

What warranty comes with a repair?

We provide a 30-day labour warranty. Most supplied parts carry at least 12 months’ warranty; any shorter supplier warranty, such as on some laptop batteries, is explained before you approve the part.

If a part we supplied fails within its applicable warranty during the first 12 months, replacement labour is included. For an extended parts warranty beyond 12 months, normal installation labour may apply, unless a no-charge remedy is required under Australian Consumer Law.

These warranties are additional to your rights under Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by these periods. Contact us with your job number so we can assess the issue.

Your consumer rights & how to contact us

Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled:

  • to cancel your service contract with us; and
  • to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value.

You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods.

If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion.

You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.

To raise an issue, contact Crawfords Computer Services on 02 6112 8380 or through our contact page, quoting your job number and describing the fault. Our workshop is at Shop 39, 150 Soward Way, Greenway ACT 2900. Please contact us before arranging transport or incurring other claim expenses so we can discuss the next step.
